Evening walk full of light and stories

From 9 January to 1 February 2026, light art route I Light U celebrates its 5th edition in the station area of Utrecht. For three weeks, you can stroll through a world of “Mirrors, Mirages, Miracles”: light artworks that play with what you see and what you think you see. The area around Utrecht Central Station will be transformed into an evening setting full of reflections, mirages and small urban wonders.

I Light U is an exhibition of light art in and around Central Station. In 2026, you will discover 12 completely new light artworks along a route of approximately 2 kilometres. The works have been created by national and international light artists, local Utrecht makers and students from the HKU. The route invites you to pause for a moment, take a good look and let yourself be surprised.

I Light U is organised by Stichting Utrecht AAN and made possible by Ondernemersfonds Utrecht.

Guided tour of the light art

We take you on a walk past the artworks. A guide will tell you about the theme Mirrors, Mirages, Miracles, the ideas behind the installations and the artists who created them. 

You will stroll at a leisurely pace past the illuminated artworks, with plenty of opportunity to ask questions and take time to appreciate what you see. This makes I Light U not only a beautiful evening walk where nothing is what it seems.

The 1.5-hour walk starts and ends at Metro City Kitchen.
